God, as critical as I am of the United States (and after having lived in New York City all my life, I have a certain stereotypical view of other parts of America) but geeeez. It pisses me off when people go off against America as if we're all one huge Bush-loving, McDonald's-eating nation. We're huge! We're huge and we have tons of different points of view wrapped up in that hugeosity. I'm not one to wave an American flag, but I do have some pride in my country. Even more than that, I have pride in my city. But New York City is not like a different nation. You can't go "America sucks, but New York is a different story." If someone is going to rule America off, then New York City is going with it, because we're as American as morbidly obese people eating apple pie. Each city is unique! So don't even compare New York City to a European city. If anything, we're like other big American cities. Yeah, you see something good, you relate it to yourself. But no. Denied!

I'm not tagging... I'm just... asking? Respond with five things people don't usually know about you, because I'm curious (and this is not a tag.)

And because I like lists! And because there are many things many people have no idea about me! Even my good friends, because I tend to not to share my obsessions. It also doesn't sound as normal in real life to go into random lists as it does in this journal.

1. I love, love 70s music.
2. I have watched old movies since I can remember, and I was a fan of Cary Grant, Errol Flynn, and Jimmy Stewart long before I even recognized that Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise existed. (And believe me, I was pretty oblivious for a long time.)
3. I am obsessed with all things Victorian. I used to be fascinated with Henry VIII, and this is the new thing. I get very excited, so beware.
4. I have a Walkman. It is severely scratched up and I used to draw while listening to old radio shows on cassettes: The Shadow and Suspense are my favorites. I haven't done this lately because I'm busy, and I've gone through my whole set.
5. I'm a romantic! I'm the good kind. The Victorian novel, Elizabeth Gaskell, roses and poetry kind. I still qualify! Even if I don't believe in pink hearts and soul mates.

Edward Cullen = Sure, he's cool when he's saving your ass and all, but over breakfast in fifty years...

Bella: Edward, what is the matter? You seem so melancholy.
Edward: Whatever do you mean?
Bella: I don't know. I just never noticed that you don't really smile.
Edward: Of course I do. See?
Bella: That is a smirk.
Edward: What? No it isn't.
Bella: No, yeah it is. Try again.

Or, what about just a casual summary of work that day?

Bella: ... and yeah, my boss is a prick. He calls me into his office 24/7. "Mr. Adrivan needs this, Mr. Adrivan thinks that..." Last week -
Edward: Wait. Did you say, Adrivan? Adrih-van?
Bella: Actually it Adree-van. Sound almost the same, but actually the two surnames are from completely different parts of the world.
Edward: Bella, listen to me. It is no longer safe
Bella: What?
Edward: Adrivan is dangerous...
Bella: No, no, Adree-van.
Edward: Don't ask me to tell you anymore. No, no, I can't! Bella, do you trust me?
Bella: He's not dangerous. He's, like, a hundred pounds over weight.
Edward: Do you trust me?
Bella: I think you're overreacting again, Edward. Just let me -
Edward: Take my hand.
Bella: Edw-
Edward: I love you with all my soul. I will never let anyone harm you.
Bella: Ed-
Edward: Never.
Bella: E-
Edward: Never.

I would stake him. I would stake the heck out of him.

But first I would rent New Moon. I'm actually interested in seeing that movie. It seems like one of those things I could appreciate best alone. Because I might feel the need to insult it if forced to take into consideration the reactions of the other girls in the room.

On a serious note about spouses and what I imagine someone would require from a life partner:
1. The ability to procreate without spawning demon babies
2. In-laws who don't want to eat you.
3. A spouse who doesn't want to eat you. (Just imagine your best friend spending her time resisting taking a bite from your arm due to a cannibal fetish. Not attractive is it?)
4. Offspring who don't want to eat you.
5. Ew... sex with dead people. Ew.
